Most delays on outsourced BIM and CAD work come from missing inputs, not slow production. Sending the right package on day one lets the delivery team ask better questions, price accurately and start immediately.
1. The scope, in one paragraph
Describe what you need delivered, for which disciplines and by when. Mention the project stage — it sets expectations for LOD and detail.
2. Source drawings and models
- Latest architectural, structural and MEP drawings (DWG or PDF), with revision letters.
- Any existing models (RVT, IFC, NWD) and the software version they were created in.
- Point clouds if existing conditions must be modeled.
3. Your standards
- Revit template, family library and view templates.
- CAD layers, text styles, blocks and title blocks.
- BIM Execution Plan and LOD matrix, if they exist.
- Units (imperial or metric) and sheet sizes.
4. Working online
Decide how files will be exchanged and reviewed — your common data environment, a secure transfer link or a shared cloud folder — and whether an NDA is needed first. Large models are best shared as a secure link.
